Supporting Mental Strength and Emotional Resilience On and Off the Field

Athletes face unique pressures on the field, in the classroom, and in everyday life. Shak Okoebor works with athletes of all ages, from school-aged to professional, to support not just performance, but the full person behind it: their confidence, identity, focus, and ability to navigate stress.

As a sports psychologist and former professional athlete, Shak understands the mental and emotional demands of competitive sports at the highest levels. His work blends clinical expertise with lived experience, and it doesn’t happen from behind a desk.

Shak meets athletes where they are: on the field, in the gym, or in other performance spaces. He builds trust through movement, presence, and shared experience, making it easier for athletes to engage and open up in a way that feels natural and relevant to their world.

He also partners with professional coaches, offering insights and tools that support long-term athlete development, well-being, and performance.

Why Athletes work with Shak

In competitive environments, athletes are often expected to “push through” physically and emotionally. Shak’s approach makes room for the full human experience of sport. He meets clients with empathy, directness, and deep respect for their goals, while helping them access the internal tools they need to succeed.

He doesn’t sit back in an office. Instead, he steps onto the field or into the athlete’s world observing, engaging, and connecting through real movement and real moments. This active approach builds trust quickly, especially for athletes who may struggle to engage in traditional talk therapy.

His dual background as both a clinical psychologist and former pro athlete builds instant credibility. And his work with professional teams and coaching staff adds valuable perspective to the athlete-coach relationship.
